What is Community Service?

Community service is a way of giving back to the community by doing jobs and tasks that need to be done, and many times there are not many people to do it. People can get very busy with their own lives, and when we become self engrossed or self centered with our time or resources, we miss out on the best part of life, which is to give is better than to receive.

Why volunteer and give to others?

We are people who believe in the Bible, and God calls us to be cheerful givers as it says in 2 Corinthians 9:7.

"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."

Giving when we want to and out of cheer is so much more powerful and free than when we are obliged to give, and do it begrudgingly. This is why a free society where people give willingly is able to accomplish much more than when we are forced to give out of guilt.

We are reminded that certain principles hold true:

"...to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35

What are the benefits of volunteering?

One of the benefits of volunteering comes when we see that we can be useful and help someone. We start to see the benefit we can provide someone; thereby, promoting in us a sense of belonging and value we can add to others. In many ways, volunteering helps us grow, not be self-centered, mature as individuals and contributing citizens to society. We also learn different skills, and how to interact with different kinds of people.
